Themistocles was a general and politician who convinced the Athenian assembly to take the revenue from their silver mines and built a large navy. He led this navy to victory against the Persians at the Battle of Salamis. Despite his great leadership in Athens, he later lost favor with his fellow citizens and was ostracize. He found refuge with the Persians where he later died.
