The temple was built
around 690 AD to celebrate the transition from Pacal to Chan-Bahlum his son.
This building along, with the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Cross, were
all believed to built around the same time. (Fergson & Royce, 1977)
Temples IV, III and II
Temple IV were built about 702 AD after the
death of Chan-Bahlum, by his brother Hok. Temples III and II were built later
around 721 AD by either Hok or his son Chaacal III. These along with several
other structures are know as the North Group of temples in Palenque. (Fergson
& Royce, 1977)
