Tikal

Tikal is located between two rivers and was founded about 600 BC. "Tikal is one of the largest and oldest of all the Maya ruins found, representing the Late Pre-Classic period until the disintegration around 900 AD." (Aguiar, pg. 29) It was believed that as many as 50,000 people may have lived at Tikal at it's height. There are over 3000 structures at the site. (Bahn, 1999)
